Cross-border reproductive care: what is its significance?
Human disease is an equal-opportunity assailant and strikes without regard for social status or human political boundaries. However, the ability for patients to access appropriate treatment for a given malady varies substantially, depending on both the disease condition and the particulars of the patients’ location and boundaries, both physical and political. In addition to availability of appropriate care, the quality and cost of such treatment may also vary substantially. All of these factors combine to induce patients to travel to different locations, notably across political borders, to seek treatment at places which may be quite distant from their homes.
