As our understanding of the complexity of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) grows, we begin to appreciate the far-reaching, multi-system manifestations of this disorder. PCOS is beyond a solely gynecologic disturbance. In recent years, new light has illuminated several psychological comorbidities of PCOS, of impact. Women with PCOS have an approximately three-fold increased risk for depression compared to controls, and the magnitude of the amplified risk for anxiety in PCOS may be even greater (1).
